The Blue World
A past life reading story about leaving behind the familiar, discovering a world of color, and seeing home with new eyes.

The Age of Blue.
The Blue Planet.
The Blue Country.
She was born and raised in a place like that.
This was a country where blue was deeply cherished.
A country beside a blue sea,
where blue was used on the walls of buildings,
blue in the furniture,
blue in the dishes,
blue in their clothes,
even blue in their makeup.
She used to think,
“Blue is lovely.
Blue is beautiful.
But every other color is beautiful in its own way, too.
I want to live somewhere with so many more colors.
Red, yellow, green, purple, gold, silver...
I want to see a colorful world where all kinds of colors are mixed together.
I’m so tired of living in a world filled with nothing but blue.”
ーーー
When she grew older, she left her country behind.
She wanted to see other lands.
She wanted to discover the colors of foreign places.
With those thoughts in her heart, she set off on a journey without telling her parents, her siblings, or anyone else.
Only one person went with her.
A boy she had known since childhood.
He wasn’t particularly strong or athletic. If anything, he was a bit of a weakling.
But ever since they were children, he had always worried about her tomboyish ways and gently looked after her.
She and her childhood friend left the blue country by the sea
and headed inland.
The moment they entered the forest, the world suddenly became brown and green.
There was hardly any blue at all.
Only a little bit of sky peeking through the leaves of the trees.
She was immediately beside herself with excitement.
“So much brown! And so much green!! There’s hardly any blue at all!!”
She danced with joy as she walked.
And he watched her gently.
They walked through the forest for many days,
until at last they reached a desert.
A world of rolling ochre earth.
A desert where everything turned red in the evening light.
She was so moved that she cried.
And he watched her gently.
The desert was beautiful, but traveling through it was brutal.
After several days, the two of them ran out of water and nearly died.
Just as they were beginning to lose consciousness,
they saw someone approaching.
ーーー
They were rescued by the people of the desert
and taken to a village built around an oasis.
After walking through the desert for days,
tormented by the blazing heat of the sun,
a beautiful blue oasis spread out before them.
She was overwhelmed by the beauty of blue, and tears filled her eyes.
Beside her, her childhood friend was crying too.
He said,
“I still think blue is the most beautiful color in the world.
Blue isn’t just one color. There are so many different depths of blue.
I think our ancestors must have known all kinds of colors, too.
And after seeing them all, they decided that blue was still the most beautiful.
I agree with them.
I still think blue is the most beautiful of all.”
Every one of his words flowed gently into her heart,
like blue water.
