The morning of our second day in Pennsylvania.
A deer came to visit the yard of the house we were renting.
My three kids were still in elementary school at the time, and they were absolutely thrilled to see it!

Your tongue’s sticking out! So cute!

The deer wandered around the yard for a while before disappearing back into the woods.
While we were eating breakfast, a whole bunch of birds showed up next, families and all.
The kids were thrilled all over again!
So that morning, the animals and birds kept the kids entertained, which gave the adults a chance to slowly relax, both physically and mentally.
Gyu’s lodging arrangements always have this feeling of being “meticulously planned.”

That afternoon, we all drove into a small nearby town to buy some groceries.
My daughter fell asleep in the car.
So my husband and our two sons went into the store, while I stayed in the car with my daughter in the supermarket parking lot.
…Bored.
Wait.
Maybe I should practice astral travel again right here!
Then I might be able to figure out whether yesterday’s “blasting-off astral travel” had only worked because I was somewhere near water—or whether the water had nothing to do with it.
In a supermarket parking lot.
Inside the car.
With the driver’s seat reclined a little.
I closed my eyes.
And started grounding.
My breathing gradually slowed down.
My hands and feet started tingling.
My whole body felt fizzy, almost like someone had injected a tiny amount of carbonation into my bloodstream.
Oh, someone came to get me…but I couldn’t really see him clearly…
My impression was that he was a serious kind of man…
I flew through space with this serious man.
Flying through space.
It feels insanely good.
At this point, I honestly can’t even explain it.
We arrived at the Spring of the Moon.
For some reason, I simply knew, “This is the moon.”
And I knew that the spring in front of me was “the Spring of the Moon.”
I headed toward the spring and dove in.
Down I went.
Deeper and deeper.
Apparently, I could breathe underwater.
I kept diving farther down, but eventually I started getting scared.
“I’m scared.”
The moment I thought that, Gyu was suddenly beside me.
He took my hand and dove down with me.
We swam together until we finally reached the very bottom.
There was a wooden box at the bottom of the spring.
Still underwater, I opened the lid.
Inside was one giant grub, packed tightly into the box.
It looked kind of like a rhinoceros beetle larva.
Just a much bigger version.
A white larva about the size of a human newborn.
I took it out of the box.
It was wedged in there so tightly that I carefully eased it out, trying not to hurt its body.
Then I held the larva in my arms and swam all the way back up.
When I climbed out of the spring and placed it on the grass, the larva started growing bigger and bigger until it suddenly turned into a human boy.
And then he just kept growing, all at once, until he looked about sixteen years old.
“Thank you! I’m okay now!”
He said it with a big smile, waved goodbye, and ran off.
His name…
He told me, but I forgot!
Who the heck was that?
And why was he a bug??
The astral travel ended, and I returned to my body.
My family came back to the car after finishing their shopping.
We went back to the house where we were staying and spent the rest of the day playing our hearts out at the lake.
And just like that, our weekend trip came to an end.
The next day, we headed home.

The kids got their fill of Pennsylvania’s nature and wildlife.
And I got my fill of adventure through my astral travel practice.
It was a slightly unusual weekend getaway.
To “Gil-something-or-other,” thank you for such a fun—and deeply meaningful—trip!
